DAY 2 (day 1 was the post with the fireworks)
traditional sweets @ a temple and a reflection of the temple keeper haha her name is also tachibana-san, same as my host family’s name! cant remember the name of the temple but theres a shrine beside it which we also visited called 考勝寺
inside of the temple
lunch: さば定食 mackerel set
dinner: 女子会＠なまはげ an izakaya which serves akita delicacies. akita is the prefecture above (?) miyagi. anyway its part of tohoku haha
mr namahage (supposed to be a kind of Japanese God) who came crashing into our room in the middle of our party. its one of the attractions of the izakaya. he was supposed to be scary (he came in shouting) but when we asked for a photo op with a malaysian 留学生he suddenly turned very friendly and polite haha. inconsistency
arisa, my host family “sister” and her bff sayuri
DAY 3: lunch break during my suzume dance (sparrow dance) debut
dinner: temaki @ home
lunch: free PIZZA-LA pizza @ an event organized by Kanda Language Institute in a high school which arisa and i went to
then we stopped by the new anpanman museum (theres one in yokohama too) but we didn go in because we were cheapskates and werent big anpanman fans anyway
we did stop by the bakery though!! SOO SOO CUTE. the buns are all based on the anpanman characters
dinner: matsuri food (festival food) this is hurricane potato for 300 yen. you can hardly call it a hurricane-_- so i guess its just wind. haha
THIS is a hurricane potato. *picture taken in seoul last year*
DAY 5: ZUIHODEN (tomb of the founder of Sendai, DATE MASAMUNE)
and Aoba-jo 青葉城 the main castle cum temple of Sendai
snack: zunda mochi!! thats my host momma. i remember being really bummed that they ran out of zunda taiyaki
lunch: ankake soba. THE PORTION WAS MASSIVE
dark knight rises!! @ The Mall, Sendai
donuts for dinner? @ the radio station. my host mother has her own 30 minute radio segment every friday morning and i was honored enough to be her interviewee for the next 3 segments haha. ppl of sendai will be hearing some random malaysian girl speaking japanese for the next 3 weeks.
DAY 6: Matsushima
breakfast and lunch at home so this is dinner at the hotel!!
appetizer: breadsticks with fresh tomato sauce
cow tongue salad
foie gras on radish and cold edamame soup
garlic scallop and crab
my invisible steak. hahaha i couldn wait for them to finish grilling the steak so i finished the vegetables even before the steak was served onto my plate.
dessert: cow tongue ice cream (better than it sounds)
DAY 7: Ishinomaki, etc
breakfast: whats my second favourite thing about staying at a hotel? BUFFET BREAKFAST. (my fav thing is unlimited fresh clean towels)
lunch: 海鮮丼 @ 女川. this was at one of the few restaurants started as part of the reconstruction efforts after the tsunami. this was 1200 yen which was REALLY CHEAP according to my host parents. a dish like this would apparently cost more than 3000 yen in tsukiji or sth. didn matter to me because i didn have to pay kekekke anyway it was super oishii.
some heart wrenching pictures of the wreck: this was the ceiling of an elementary school where 80 % of the students were washed away to sea by the tsunami because they couldn escape as their building was only 2 storeys tall. those who survived were the ones who managed to evacuate to higher land up on a hill nearby. there was a little memorial set up in front of the used-to-be building with bunches and bunches of sunflowers as offerings but it felt disrespectful to take a photo of it. but if u could see itd bring tears to ur eyes too.
an overturned building. tilt ur head to the left to look at it right side up.
DAY 8 was covered in my previous post with the cow tongue rice set etc
*btw the black part the corners of my pictures are is part of the lens cover which got stuck after i dropped my camera.
