I hereby officiate my blog renewal by writing my first post using my relatively new iphone5!
I’m still quite new to this smartphone thing so please bear with me while I try to figure out the best way to do this. But one thing’s for sure, I’ll be updating more often from now on because it’s just too convenient!!
What is this amazing invention that is the smartphone. Yes I am aware that i sound like an old lady.
Ok so first up is a picture of my tsukemen which I had for dinner with Susan today after watching the drama performance by nakayama sensei’s Japanese class at the Ono memorial hall today. The production was entitled 再起動 ie restart and it was more or less the storyline of A Christmas Carol where a guy gets a second chance in life after being led around by a mysterious entity and forced to watch some of his life’s ‘memories’ or his future being played like a video. in this case, his guide was a lottery ticket seller and the flashbacks were times where he hurt the feelings of everyone around him by being an ass who only likes to play video games and looks down on his best friend for giving up a space in a prestigious uni to pursue his dreams of being a pattiserie. I didn’t really understand the episode with the girlfriend, I think he was just ignoring her?? So anyway the climax was when all these people (family, girlfriend, best friend) were gathered around the coffin at his funeral and the best friend suddenly breaks down and has a 2minute long monologue summarizing how the main character has wasted his life. Stage blacks out, emo music fades out gradually. Think you can guess the next scene?
Yeah, the guy wakes up from his ‘dream’ and we see the stage set exactly like in the opening scene where we were introduced to his assholey ways of refusing to buy eggs for his mum and storming out of the house. Only this time around, he’s figured he has a second chance to get his shit together so he offers to buy the eggs instead.
From the 30minute Q&A session after the performance I gleaned that this batch of students had some trouble getting the script together just like we did in our production last term. But this time they had like 8 Japanese volunteer students which was quite surprising cause we only had 2… Storyline wise I think my team was probably more original and actually overall I think ours was a better production as well but maybe I’m just being biased here. IAndre was really good as the emotional best friend and Monica, my baito friend who played the main characters girlfriend was cute and girly (which is quite weird because I’ve only seen her in our ugly waitress uniform with all our hair tied up in a bun) but I thought the best was probably the dad even though it was only a minor role. I don’t know his name but I think he’s korean.
Overall it was a great way to spend the night and i had fun catching up with some familiar faces.
I guess this wraps up my really random post at a really random timing! But honestly I’m just glad to be back and blogging, this is definitely a good start. I’ll decide on the direction and content of this blog as soon as I can find an interesting and relatable theme. In the meantime, stay tuned and enjoy an engrish fail picture Of a menu I found at the new burger place near takadanobaba 🙂
